Women in Leadership

Women across the world are still under-represented in leadership roles in all areas of public life: politics, economics, social services, education, media, technology, etc. Research shows that default leadership styles play a significant part in leadership success. Are women different from men – are they wired differently? This issue of default is explored using self-assessment tools in the context of female leadership looking at whether there are qualities and skills unique to women and if so, why? Further, what are and have been the barriers to women in leadership achievement? How have changing values, changing access patterns to various media, a globalised economy had an impact? The programme takes a close look at top women leaders and the reasons for their successes and failures, together with the challenges they face. It also addresses today’s fast changing workplace, generational expectations, changing social structures, new frontiers of knowledge, exploring the way ahead as economies progress into the realities of the 21st century.

Turning 'Theory' into 'Practice'?

The programme moves from underlying issues – leadership versus management; leadership models, styles, stereotypes; organisational change, contemporary disruptive forces and their impact and implications; moral, ethical and rights shifts - to the personal, aspirational and professional circumstances of participants. All contexted to women in leadership. Case studies and thumbnail profiles include: Sheryl Standberg, COO Facebook, author of Learn In and de facto leader of all corporate women. Yuriko Koike, first woman governor of Tokyo, Misty Copeland, Principal Dancer, American Ballet Theatre and the first black dancer to achieve this level of leadership; Marissa Meyer, CEO, Yahoo, Stacey Brown-Philpot, CEO, TaskRabbit, Angela Merkel, Chancellor Germany; Gini Rometty, CEO, IBM. Gloria Steinem, feminist, and more. Highly interactive and participatory sessions offer an active learning opportunity to explore the issues of women in leadership from 360° perspective and equip you with the tools and knowledge to unlock your own potential.
