Managerial Finance A Master Class in Analytical Assessment

When a manager must make an important decision, he or she needs current and relevant financial (and non-financial) information at short notice. To this end sound financial management creates value and organisational agility through the allocation of scarce resources amongst competing business opportunities. It is an aid to the implementation and monitoring of business strategies and helps achieve business objectives. Managerial Finance is an interdisciplinary approach that borrows from both managerial accounting and corporate finance, and concerns itself with the managerial significance of finance system. It focuses on assessment rather than technique. Managerial Finance therefore aims to answer the questions that are central to the operations of today's industries and their financial management. In so doing, Managerial Finance seeks to address such questions as: • Why are financial aspects so important? • What should firms do about new investment, mergers and dividends? • Why are share prices important? • How much should firms borrow? • Why are cash flows and risk so important? When financial data is available further questions can then be considered, such as: • Are we performing better or worse than our peers? • If so, what is the source of the problem? • Do we have the same profit margins? • If not why? • Do we have the same expenses? • Are we paying more for something than our peers? This course provides the skills and techniques required for a sound understanding of Managerial Finance.

Turning 'Theory' into 'Practice'?

The programme will provide the theoretical background and techniques that underpin the organisation and management of Managerial Finance and its related functions.
