Positioning Compliance as a Business Partner: Partnering Skills Masterclass

Compliance has never been as important as in recent times. The banking crisis, the recession in Western economies and public whistleblowing have had significant financial and reputational impact on government, public and private sectors. Compliance functions recognise that while they need to work with the Regulators to ensure adherence to industry requirements, they also need to better understand and work with their businesses to ensure successful implementation. Forward thinking Compliance functions are also starting to place more emphasis on organisational ‘values’ and employee ‘ethics’, rather than rely on ‘policies’ and ‘processes’. These rapid changes have led to the formalisation of the Compliance Business Partner role. Unlike Business Partner roles in Human Resources and Finance, Compliance professionals do not face a legacy of administration. However, they do have to move from a transactional approach to an employee focussed perspective, a move that requires a new set of skills and experiences. Unless Compliance can ensure that their Business Partners have role clarity and the skills and attitude to deliver, the credibility of the entire organization is at stake.

Turning 'Theory' into 'Practice'?

This highly interactive and innovative workshop focuses on what being a Compliance Business Partner means for an organization. The workshop will equip attendees with the a) Knowledge, tools and techniques to clarify what the Business Partner role can deliver b) Personal skills and knowledge to improve their own Business Partner proficiency. Based on the latest research, experiences drawn from other functions and their own practical experience, participants will have access to a number of practical models, tools and assessments. Delegates are warned that this intensive course may require some work in the evenings to critically examine both what their organisations require of their Compliance Business Partners as well as evaluating their own existing skill set. Participants will be encouraged and supported to build a personal development plan for future success.

Who should attend?

Experienced Compliance professional who are seeking to either clarify their role, wish to understand how they can measure their success or those who are simply seeking to improve their skills and knowledge. Senior Compliance professionals who are tasked with working with or managing Compliance Business Partners and would like an overview of the role and its impact on the organization. The course will also be useful for Finance and Audit professionals. This course is also highly applicable to functions which are involved in ensuring compliance across a business – including Regulatory Affairs, Legal and Health & Safety.
Note: This course can also be delivered as an In-Company solution tailored to your unique training requirements including pre-course, on-site training needs assessment.
